Dear NASUP Members,

We’d like to bring to your attention a recent policy development from one of our partner organizations, the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), that may be of interest to school-university partnership teams.

AACTE has published an update on a Senate appropriations bill that could significantly impact funding for educator preparation programs (EPPs). The Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Committee recently advanced its Fiscal Year 2026 bill with bipartisan support. Notably, the bill maintains funding for all educator preparation programs, including Teacher Quality Partnership Grants, Hawkins Centers of Excellence, and the IDEA Personnel Preparation program. It also includes provisions to safeguard timely grant distribution and prevent the relocation of Title I and IDEA programs to other federal agencies. Many of our partnerships utilize these funds to support teachers and students and to advance their partnership work.

This legislation reflects a strong commitment to sustaining federal support for teacher preparation, in-service teacher development, and K–12 student learning—core areas of focus for NASUP members. As the bill moves forward, AACTE encourages its members and stakeholders to engage with Congress during the August recess to advocate for continued investment in these essential programs.
